Horsemanship and Riding Lessons with Kim Woods are held in a safe and friendly environment, either as one on one lessons or in small groups, suitable for both children and adults. Our facilities include post and rail yards with tie-up area, a lovely sheltered 20 x 40 metre dressage arena suitable for riding in all weather, including an obstacle course and show jumps. We also have good access to country road riding.

Facilities at Behaving Naturally

As well as regular lessons our school holiday programmes include Junior Riders day, Advanced Riders courses, Mother & Daughter days, Jumping Fun days, Gymkhana Games, Treasure Hunts, First Aid courses and, during the summer, an overnight Horse Whispering camp. An annual Christmas Show is held in late December, giving family and friends the opportunity to come and watch the students participate in a group riding demonstration.

These days are all very popular with both children and adults - you can bring your own horse or use one of ours.

Establish confidence with horses

ABOUT THE LESSONS
Early lessons begin by establishing confidence with a horse, balance in the saddle at walk and trot, moving on to rising trot, stopping and turning.
Advancing riders progress on to cantering, planning rides and negotiating obstacle courses including jumps, with emphasis on being in control, safety and fun.

As we specialise in natural horsemanship, the lessons include connecting with a horse on the ground before progressing through to under saddle. A feature of natural horsemanship is learning how to interpret a horses' body language. This enables us to know what the horse is thinking and feeling about something.

Kim riding her horse using body language and a stick for guidanceAll of our horses at Behaving Naturally are trained using natural horsemanship and some of them can be ridden without a bridle! Once you have enough balance to ride without holding on with both hands, you can learn how to turn a horse using your legs and body, or by guiding the horses' head around with a long stick. You can slow the horse down and stop him by lowering the life in your body, yawning, using the stick or by a string around the horses neck. It really is alot of fun and you will be amazed by the amount of trust and communication you can create with a horse... it's something to aspire to.

Our horses and ponies range in height from 12hh to 16hh and they are all very friendly, safe and loving - one of them will soon become your favourite!
